Kawasaki Frontale v Urawa Reds

J.League Division 1: Sat, 10th May 2008

Kawasaki Frontale 0 - 1 Urawa Reds
EDMILSON 62' (pen.)

Venue: Todoroki Stadium
Attendance: 20,355

To say Frontale deserved to get something out of the game on Saturday would be an understatement. Rather this performance should serve to confirm the team's return to form.

It was a fairly cagey first half, with the home side playing the more fluid football. Urawa admittedly looked more dangerous on their limited forays into the final third of the pitch.

The game pivoted on the penalty decision midway through the second half. A nice backheel from Tulio put Takahara through on goal. Igawa slid in with a challenge that may have caught some of the ball and may have been outside the penalty area, but the referee had no hesitation in pointing to the spot.

Clearly feeling hard-done-by, Frontale had their best spell of the game and put the Reds defence under some real pressure. This culminated in a goalmouth scramble that initially seemed to hit a defender's arm before Taniguchi bundled the ball into the back of the net.

However, the equaliser wasn't allowed to stand as the linesman had his flag up for offside. This despite Yamada being stood on the goalline as the ball was played in to Taniguchi.

Frontale continued to control possession and press Urawa for the rest of the game, but there was a sense that their chance had come and gone. Juninho and Taniguchi had decent efforts on goal, but the Reds defence held firm.

Nice work here, it is great to see someone putting up information in English about the club. Shame about the loss to the Reds, but sitting in third in the standings is a great position.

I actually have a quick question for you too. Aside from eBay as a possible choice, where do you think I could get a home jersey online?

I completely agree. A great resource for us UK based Frontale fans.
Guess the penalty was a tough decision for the ref to make, and even after watching the reply many times I am still not sure, so can't complain too much about that.
The disallowed goal though was a terrible decision though. The goal should definitely have stood.
I bought my Frontale shirt in Tokyo as I struggled to find one on the internet with my limited Japanese!

Cheers lads. I think we're all agreed that after the start we made this season it's quite a relief to be back within touching distance of the top.

Also agreed about the shirts. Not easy to come by online unless your Japanese is up to scratch.

Maybe someone else out there has had more luck? I think Tokyu Hands sells them and they must have an online store.

I don't think Tokyu Hands' website is in English, but if there is any chance of getting a Frontale shirt outside of Japan I think it would be at Subside Sports. Though, I haven't seen one yet, only Gamba Osaka and Reds for the most part.

Sorry to get off topic though, just letting this be known fellows.
